Teacher Feature Teacher Feature-Hillary Rodriguez Show Transcript hello my name is Hillary Rodriguez and I teach dual credit US History I've been teaching for 14 years and all 14 years have been here at Southwest High School so yay dragons uh I was inspired to become a teacher when I was in high school I went to a a it was like a teacher program where I worked in a kindergarten classroom and I just loved it but uh then I had kids and I did not want to be in a kindergarten classroom anymore so here I am in high school 1 of my favorite memories at Southwest High School was several years ago ago I was teaching an AP US History Class it was like a really teeny tiny class and usually those teeny tiny classes can sometimes be a struggle to get people to participate but this group of students was just so Dynamic and and they had such a great chemistry together they would throw little parties together they did Christmas exchanges they exchanged Valentine's um we all dressed up for Halloween I was uh Miss Frizzle for the Magic School Bus and they all dressed up as some of the kids in fact I have a a little picture that we took still um and it was just like this really welcoming group of students and that's 1 of the things that I love being here at Southwest High School is just how welcoming and friendly all of the students are if I could tell my current students anything hopefully they're listening to this um but yes I am going to challenge you this year and yes there are going to be a lot of difficult things and a lot of uh struggles that we're going to go through but we're going to get through it together and that I'm here to support you every step of the way um so please just stick it out it's going to be rough but we're going to get there and you're going to have skills that are going to take you to the next level I'm just so happy to be part of the community here at Southwest High School in the southwest ISD uh community in general uh I feel so uh nurtured as a teacher and allowed to kind of spread my wings and do what I need to do that's going to best support my students so I want to send my thanks to all my colleagues here at Southwest High School all the administration who have been so supportive over the years and to all of the students both current and former that have uh challenged me as an educator because uh I learn as much from the students as they learn from me I am Hillary Rodriguez here at Southwest High School where dragons and dreams take flight
