Teacher Feature- Eddie Perales Teacher Feature- Eddie Perales Show Transcript hello my name is Mr pails and I'm the Mariachi cunto director here at Southwest High School I've been working in here at Southwest over this will be my 27th year here at Southwest High School uh I think the person that inspired me to become a teacher is when I went to school and 1 of the college professors um saw the the ambition for me to to help other students so he was the 1 that kind of encouraged me to go into teaching I think the person that inspired me the most was when I went back to school and 1 of my college professors uh encouraged me to become a teacher and uh inspired me to get into teaching so that's why I'm a teacher now well there's so many good memories here at Southwest High School for me but I think 1 that really stands out um was being able to take the varsity and play the national anthem they're on on the floor at at for the San Antonio Spurs and seeing I think it was Duncan's last year Tim Duncan's and to be right there and and just to have that um that all of everybody really just watching us play that was really spectacular that that was that stands out the most I think I would tell my students my former students that always try to do your best uh I try to achieve the highest that you can be I think I would tell my my current students that uh to dream big and to do anything that they put their mind to it they can achieve it uh it's great being here at Southwest High School and the district that really supportive 1 of the things I'm really proud of is that District was able to allow me to add another course which uh not very many schools have that here in San Antonio and so it's an opportunity to reach out to the community and bring that culture in just like we have mariachi and so I think I'm in an in a unique place where I get to do things that I think will help our community and culturally bring us together so it's a good thing for us I Mr pad is here at Southwest where dragons and dreams take flight
